RETOUR À MANDIMA
It was 1996 and Robert-Jan was 10 when he left his native village in Zaire. War broke out soon after. Fifteen years later he was set off on a personal journey, in search of childhood, and of his three best friends. But a lot has happened in fifteen years.
When all the children of the family were girls and the father was all alone with the responsibility of running the farm and supporting the growing family, the parents decided that one of the daughters had to become a son. They dressed her in boys’ clothes and she was taught everything a man needs to know. Now, she’s over 80 years old and tells us the story of her life.
