TRUST ME: BRIAN PALMER – CAN COURAGE SAVE US BEFORE THE FINAL COUNTDOWN?
Thursday 26/10 19.00 GRAND
Have we come to the final countdown, when Trump will stumble into nuclear apocalypse and take us all with him? What would it take to prevent the end of the world? Sophie Scholl left her classes to secretly distribute pamphlets against Adolf Hitler; eleven-year old Malala Yousafzai lived amidst the Taliban while blogging about their brutality. Anthropologist Brian Palmer is haunted by such individuals who risk everything to save their societies. He gathers wisdom from heroic lives and applies it to questions of surviving as an idealist in an unforgiving world. What can our bravest contemporaries
and fallen friends teach us?
At Harvard, Palmer’s courses on courage and engagement attracted as many as 600 students per term and he was voted the university’s best lecturer. Currently based at
Uppsala University in Sweden, Palmer co-created the Raoul Wallenberg Calendar, a portrayal of 365 heroes that was printed in over 100,000 copies in three languages and
serialized on Swedish Radio in 2013. He and Ola Larsmo wrote the book 101 historiska hjältar (101 Historical Heroes), published in 2013. In 2014, Palmer interviewed Edward Snowden. Learn more: brianpalmer.org.
The talk will be held in English.
